At birth, a calf does not have any immune defenses. The vital antibodies are supplied to the calf only after birth, in the first milk it drinks, the so-called colostrum. The large immunoglobulin molecules reach the blood circulation through passageways in the semi-permeable membrane of the gastro-intestinal tract that are closing soon after birth. Therefore, optimum immunisation absolutely requires that the calf feeds quickly, preferably in the first three hours after birth, on as much colostrum of the highest quality as possible.

Recent scientific findings corroborate that calves that ingest 4 litres of colostrum right after birth will be healthier and produce more milk when the grow to be cows!

That's the facts, but how can I live up, in practice, to the requirements posed by my calf?
coloQuick is the Innovation 2009 that makes colostrum management easy and practical for any operation!

To give your calves the opportunity to express their genetic potential fully right from the start, it is absolutely necessary that high-quality colostrum is made available to them as soon as possible. “Colostrum ready within 15 minutes”, is the word!

coloQuick is your choice to do so:

  • With a colostrometer, determine the quality of the beestings. Only good colostrum is able to strengthen your calf's immune defenses against germs specific to the environment on the farm.
  • Use the hopper as a helper to funnel good-quality colostrum into the disposable bags. These bags feature a very large surface area, which ensures that colostrum can be quickly deep-frozen and defrosted without bacteria growth.
  • When a calf is born, take one bag of colostrum out of the deep freezer and defrost it within no more than 15 minutes in the double-boiler style heater (-18°C > 40°C/0°F > 104°F).
  • It does not take more than a quarter of an hour and one step for you to be able to feed your calf colostrum of the highest quality!
