Calves that grow outdoors are healthier and develop more resistant immune defences. Hence, more and more experts recommend raising calves in igloos outdoors from right after birth!

The calves compensate for low temperatures even in winter. However, for them to be able to do so, sufficient supply of dry bedding material is critical and the diet programme has to be in line with the higher energy demand. But what can be done about less robust or even ill calves? If these animals are moved from outdoors to a “warm housing” with higher ammonia and bacteria levels, the problems may even worsen.

It is more appropriate to keep the calves outdoors in the climate they are used to and protect them with the H&L Calf Jacket to avoid hypothermia. They thus continue to have the benefit of healthy, fresh air and still get a cosy temperature from the jacket that supports their recovery from illness.

The lined H&L Calf Jacket is made of several textile layers, is water-repellent on the outside, and allows the body's humidity to penetrate from the inside. H&L's Calf Jacket is easy to install on the calf. It can be adjusted with its two leg staps to fit calves of different sizes. H&L's Calf Jacket can safely be washed in a machine at 30°C. If a calf suffers from a contagious disease, washing and disinfecting the Jacket after use is recommended.
