Farmer's work area protected from the elements
Whatever the weather or the season, the farmer benefits from the possibility to
perform his or her everyday work, such as feeding the calves, ridding the manure, protected from the elements. Furthermore, the individual igloos
are set according to a structured pattern, which nevertheless keeps all the mobility that allows relocation. |
Dry and clean resting area
Calves love the atmosphere outdoors. When conditions are fine, the stay in the open for 80% of the day. However, this holds only true when the resting area is dry and clean. It should be bedded and allow shadow in the summer, in order for the calves to remain in a comfort zone. |
Improved space-per-animal ratio
Because of its ideal design as a resting space, the calves will use the “front yard” of the igloo a lot. This means a decisive improvement of the space-per-calf ratio, which in turn allows successful rearing outcomes even in small igloos. |
Sun block and avoidance of heat stress
Calves love the atmosphere outdoors. When conditions are fine, the stay in the
open for 80% of the day. However, this holds only true when the resting area is dry and clean.
It should be bedded and allow shadow in the summer, in order for the calves to remain in a comfort zone. |
Regular relocation for low levels of bacteria in the nursery
Once the individual igloos were relocated to a new spot,
ridding the manure is perfectly easy with a tractor.
This way the calves move to a new, clean spot whenever needed
and are not exposed to high levels of bacteria load. The UV rays, fresh
air, and rain ensure natural disinfection of the spot
where the igloo stood. |
Easy manure ridding after relocation of the H&L Calf Camp
Ridding manure is possible after moving the H&L Calf Camp. With the
flexible positioning of the wheels, the H&L Calf Camp
can be moved forwards, backwards, but also both ways
left and right. |
Calves are free to choose where they want to be
On top of the space inside the igloo, the calf can use the entire space of the exercise area. This is how every calf can choose to be inside the igloo when the weather is poor or out on the bedding of the exercise area when the weather is fine. |
Plenty of fresh air for healthy calves
Many dairy operations are confronted with problems of poor micro-climate in the
barn and what may be called “stable-tiredness” in their calves because
of high levels of bacteria load, especially when calves are born year-round.
Housing calves outdoor in the H&L Calf Camp is the optimum opportunity
to rear calves with utmost flexibility out in the open, with plenty of fresh air. |
